Description
It is known to pass suitable base paper for the purpose of parchment through acid baths, after sufficient action of the acid to remove this as possible by suitable washing devices and finally to dry the parchmented paper in drying devices. The known devices for carrying out this process have the disadvantage that the consumption of acid is relatively high and accordingly the paper is very expensive. Moreover, such systems are bulky and expensive since they have a number of so-called scrubbing towers for the thorough removal of the acid residues and are provided for drying the washed paper with extensive and consequently expensive drying apparatus, which are usually heated with steam.
The invention leads to a substantial reduction in the amount of acid required for the production of parchment-coated paper and thus a very considerable reduction in the price; in addition, an extremely welcome simplification of the process is achieved.
The invention consists in that the paper web before being introduced into the acid bath a Is subjected to the effects of cold, which puts it in a colloid-like state. Under the action of the acid when entering the bath is then parchmented Surface that prevents the acid from penetrating the inside of the paper web. This results in a considerable under-consumption of acid, and furthermore, the after removal of the excess acid required before exiting the bath facilitated, which brings about a simplification of the means used for this.
B. das zur EntfernungIt is already known that the consumption of acid depends essentially on the temperature, where the parchment takes place: the lower this temperature, the lower becomes the consumption of acid. That is why one has already done so by arranging cooling pipes sought to lower the temperature of the acid in the acid bath. However, this is not the case Care has been taken to ensure that the paper to be parchment is even when it enters the acid bath has a comparatively high temperature and thus once the temperature of the Exposure to coming acid increases again. Furthermore, the acid always penetrates into everyone Layers of the paper web, including the inner ones, whose parchment is of no use brings. Both disadvantages are avoided if, according to the invention, the paper web from the Parchment is chilled, it may be noted that for purposes other than those the cooling of paper webs has already been proposed for parchment. Further then needs the removal of the acid, which after leaving the bath in the paper web left behind, no longer in a number of washing towers or other cumbersome ones Measures to be taken. Rather, it is sufficient, since the acid is only in the surface layers of the paper web, simple means, such as B. that for removal
Finally, the drying takes place in a simple manner known per se by means of suction boxes. So arise a easy and relatively low cost parchment process and cheap and not very extensive devices for its implementation, ίο In the drawing is such a schematic Device for carrying out the method shown.
The paper web to be parchment runs from a supply roll ι over cooling drums 2 and 3. According to the invention, these cooling drums are located in a cooling chamber 4 into which the Paper web runs in from the roll 1 through a narrow gap and from which it, after passing through the cooling cylinders 2 and 3, in which the acid bath 6 enters. Against this latter, which is cooled in a known manner by cooling tubes 7; is the cooling chamber by one Slide 5 completed.
In this way, the comparatively warm air in the work area is removed from the paper web and kept away from the cooling cylinders so that they produce a very effective cooling can and the paper web with an actually very low, almost zero degrees reached temperature enters the acid bath in a colloid-like state. The paper web in turn therefore increases the temperature imparted to the acid bath by the cooling tubes and above all the temperature of the acid penetrating the paper, no more, and the acid only causes surface parchment.
By means of a tension press 8, the paper web is passed through the acid bath and the cooling chamber drawn and then enters a washing bath 9, the temperature of which is also passed through cooling tubes 10 is kept low, and in which most of the acid is washed off the paper.
Zum Weiterziehen der Papierbahn dient eine zweite Zugpresse 11.A second pull press 11 is used to pull the paper web further.
From the wash bath, the paper web arrives the aforementioned simple washing device and the drying device that do not have the Form the subject of the invention. A number of sprinkler nozzles 12, 13 throw water in finely divided, atomized form on the paper web and thus exert an intensive washing effect on the surface, through which all traces of acid are easily removed. The drying is opened by opening suction boxes 14, 15 causes between which the paper web is guided after the main body of the water stripped at the entry point of the paper web by the precisely adjustable edges of the suction cups has been. The suction cups remove the last traces of water so that the paper web, which are impermeable to water on the surface due to the parchment process that has taken place has become, leaves the suction cup completely dry. It is then carried out by a further pulling press 16 conveyed further and rolled up on a reel 17.
