Abstract

356,293. Sliding latches. MILLEDGE, S. Z., 14, Hartington Road, Grove Park, Chiswick, London. June 10, 1930, No. 17787. [Class 44.] A bolt 8 is withdrawn by a pin 6 attached to a U-shaped plate 4 which slides parallel to the bolt when either projection 2, attached to the door handle, is turned. A spring 10 presses on an edge of the bolt, Fig. 2, and forms a couple with the line of action of the draw-pin 6 on the bolt so that in the withdrawn position the bolt is turned sideways and a notch 12 grips the edge of a plate 15 to hold the bolt in the retracted position. The bolt is released by a pin 14 striking the door jamb and pressing sideways on the bolt. In a modified form the striking pin is dispensed with and a projecting rim on the striking plate of the door-post pushes the bolt sideways when the door is closed. In this case the bolt end has two notches 12 and a rib on one side, the rib contacting with the projection on the striking plate.
