Abstract

355,128. Aeroplane with gas bags. KOUN, Y. H., 151, East 51st Street, New York, U.S.A. Nov. 10, 1930, No. 33840. [Class 4.] An aeroplane has wings 10 upon the upper surfaces of which are disposed elliptical gas bags 24 adapted to be inflated with hydrogen gas from a container 12 in the fuselage stated to ensure buoyancy on water. The bags 24 comprise outer coverings 25 and linings 26 the space between which is filled with a non-inflammable gas such as helium or carbon dioxide. The bags communicate with one another by means of pipes 27 connected to a pump 30 of which the intake communicates with the tank 12. The wings are divided into airtight compartments 16 interconnected by passages 17; these compartments may be evacuated of air by a pump 20. The pumps 20, 30 are driven through clutches by belts from an engine shaft 23. Valves 23a, 32 permit entry of air into the wing compart. ments 16 and release of gas from the bags 24, respectively. Gas released from the bags 24 is collected in a container, not shown.
