Abstract
262,089. Tallei, G. Nov. 16, 1926. Aerostats; propelling; cars. - The air within the envelope of a rigid airship is heated by the exhaust gases from the internal combustion engines used for propulsion. The envelope is formed of two sheet metal walls, an outer smooth wall 1, Fig. 4, and an inner corrugated wall of aluminium. The framework comprises a central longitudinal tube 8, Fig. 2, closed at the front end and to which spaced ring-shaped members 6 are connected by supporting spokes. The exhaust gases are delivered into the tube 8 in which openings may be provided to permit part of the gases to escape into the aerostat. The escape of the gases from the rear end of the tube 8 assists propulsion. Valves may be provided for maintaining a predetermined pressure within the aerostat. Aspirators may be used for actuating or retarding the flow of air or exhaust gases into and out of the envelope and for maintaining them in any desired position. Cars 5, Fig. 1, each provided with two or more propellers 18, are arranged on each side of the aerostat, communication be. tween the cars being effected through a recess 16.
