Abstract

255,345. Stevens, C. H. Feb. 4, 1926. Screw propellers. - Screw propeller blades iormed of sheet or pressed metal plates wedded at the edges and at the roots to a suitable boss are welded to the tubular body of a flanged boss, and covering plates forming the outside of the boss are welded to the outer ends of the boss flanges and to the blades to form a hollow boss. The blades are formed from tapered plates a, a' welded at the edges and provided with distance tubes g through which pass rivets g'. The boss comprises a tube c with flanges d and is completed by plates e welded to the flanges and at e<2> to the blades, the roots of the latter passing through and welded at f to the boss c. The complete propeller is tested under internal air pressure for water tightness.
