Abstract

585.630. Tubular heat-exchangers. TIMSON, F. W. May 15, 1944, No. 9257. [Class 64 (iii)] A fuel economiser or air preheater is composed of tubular units 1, Fig. 1, having ducts 8 for the fluid to be heated and flutes 2 which, when the units are assembled, form circular passages for the heating gases, said passages being readily cleaned by circular brushes or scrapers. The units may be connected by bands 10, Fig. 3, having screwed-on flanges adapted to. be secured by studs to corresponding flanges on the units. The units may be formed with bosses 15 abutting against the expanded ends 16 of the bands. In a modification, the units are provided with projecting tubes carrying screwed-on flanges 18, Fig. 5, and formed with tapered ends 17a engaging corresponding recesses in the flanges on the bands 10. Steel protector rings 17 are provided between the ends of the units and the flanges 18. The ducts 8 may be of elliptical or rectangular cross section.
