Abstract

487,906. Airships. CLARK, F. B. April 6, 1937, No. 9826. [Class 4] An airship comprises a bluntly convex nose 11 and a cylindrical body 10 which tapers upwards at the bottom to the stern. The stem is convexly rounded in a less radius than the nose. The cabin and engine are contained in a hollow keel 12 formed by a central longitudinal projecting extension of the body joined to the body by concave curved surfaces forming tunnels in which are contained the propellers 15, and which form a lifting and stabilizing surtace. A gas bag is spaced from and supported within the framework by inwardly extending frame members. Engine exhaust gases may be passed between the external envelope and the gas bag, to control expansion and contraction of the gas and melt ice and snow. Hollow fins 21 may contain gas or hot air.
