Abstract
284,638. Robiola, A. Feb. 1, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Aerostats; balancing.-An aerostat comprises one or more compartments each in two parts, one consisting of an inner flexible bag and the other an outer shell, so that gas can be withdrawn from one part and air passed simultaneously into the other part, or vice versa, to control t.he descent or ascent of the aerostat. As shown in Fig. 1, the end and centre compartments are provided with bags a connected by pipes c to an air pump d by which air may be forced into the bags to drive the gas from the shells F through pipes e to a container h and thereby cause the aerostat to descend. Ascent is caused by opening an airvalve c<1> and the valve e<1> of the container. The gas may be pumped from the shell F into the container h. The bags a may contain gas and air may be forced into the space in the shell F outside the bags, or automatically drawn into the shell through apertures when the gas in the bags is pumped out. The aerostat may be provided with planes p, Fig. 3, movable along their horizontal axes.
