Abstract

237,125. Gibbs, H. G. Sept. 6, 1924. Captive balloons; aerostats.-To maintain the gas pressure in a kite balloon, four longitudinal rigging bands A, B, C, D, two on the port side and two on the starboard side, are secured to the inside of the envelope and are connected together by rubber or steel springs E, F crossing one another. The rigging bands may be equidistant from each other around the circumference of the envelope or they may be arranged closer together vertically than horizontally. The springs E, F are connected to wooden pegs lying within the folds of the rigging bands or they may be connected to fabric gussets or to inextensible cables terminating in crows feet. The rear fins are gas filled instead of air filled.
