Abstract
758,090. Balloons. SUCAL, Ltd., SUCHY, C. T., McAULEY, D. J., and FERRER, H. J. Oct. 22, 1954 [July 24, 1953], No. 20612/53. Class 4. [Also in Group XL (c)] An inflatable balloon has an electrically. conductive member or members arranged within its interior so that when the balloon is inflated, the member or members is, or are caused to assume predetermined dimensions and disposition. The member may be an octahedral radar reflector 3. As shown, an inner balloon 2 has a hard rubber neck 5 passing in a fluid right manner through the neck 11 of an outer envelope 1. The neck 5 has two holes 6 normally covered by a rubber sleeve 7 joined at 10 to two inextensible cords 8 attached at their other ends to two points 9 of the inner envelope, so that any expansion of this envelope over a predetermined size pulls the sleeve 7 to allow gas to escape through holes 6 to relieve pressure inside the envelope 2. A parachute extending over the upper half of the envelope 2 may be secured thereto by shroud lines of which the cords 8 may be two, for slow descent of meteorological instruments, after both envelopes have burst.
