Abstract
634,798. Collapsable boats. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. May 6, 1947, No. 12270. Convention date, Oct. 8, 1942. [Class 113 (ii)] In a pliable boat having a collapsable hollow keel composed as to its walls of flexible waterproof material and fillable with a fluid with resulting assumption of a pre-determined form in which it is capable of acting as a keel, the filling means therefor are so arranged that the fluid may be, at will, either a liquid or a gas. To fill a collapsable hollow keel 3 of a pliable boat 1 with water the boat is floated and operation of a hand bellows 4, located on the bottom 2 of the boat and in communication with the interior of the keel, draws water therein through a non-return valve 5 on the side of the keel and expels air therefrom through an open ended pipe 6 having a non-return valve therein until the keel is filled as indicated by water debouching from the pipe 6 which may then be sealed by a closure plug. The keel 3 is filled with air by operating the hand bellows 4 with the boat out of water and pipe 6 closed or, alternatively floating the boat, locking the valve 5 and providing a non-return valve in the top of the hand bellows.
