Abstract

The reserve buoyancy consists of a number of airtight bags (1) which are joined together. The bags are stowed around the vessel above the main deck, behind vertical ports which are in line with sides of the vessel. The bags are pumped up with compressed air from a bottled supply. The bags filled with air expand over the sides of the vessel to form a floatation collar. The bags may be inflated automatically from a water level switch inside the vessel. The number of byouancy bags is sufficient to keep the vessel afloat under all conditions.
