Abstract

255,488. Goodyear-Zeppelin Corporation, (Assignees of Schoettel, E.). July 17, 1925, [Convention date.]. Aerostats for airships comprisa a number of cylindrical compartments 10 made of fabric and containing helium, and supplementary gas bags 13, containing methane or other inflammable lifting or full gas, arranged between the cells 10 so as to be completely enclosed by them. Netting 12 which encloses the cells 10 and whereby they are secured to the framework, limits the expansion of the bags 13 and determines their position. A conduit 16 communicating with the atmosphere is led to the bottom of the bags 13 and leads away any fuel gas that may escape. The bags may be emptied at will by means of a valve 15 communicating with the conduit, to vary the lift.
