Abstract

<PICT:0353248/III/1> <PICT:0353248/III/2> <PICT:0353248/III/3> In apparatus of the separate heater and evaporator type comprising a tubular heater 10 and an evaporator 11, the tubes 18, 19 by which the unevaporated liquid is recirculated to the heater form the sole support for the apparatus and are provided with legs 20a. The vapours evolved, after partial separation of entrained liquid by striking a baffle formed by the door 12, pass off through a pipe 23 to a final separator, Fig. 5, comprising an outer shell 30 closed by headers 31, 32 and containing a vapour inlet pipe 25 with a depending tubular baffle 33 and a liquid outlet pipe 27 the upper end of which projects into the baffle 33 to form a liquid seal. The vapours pass through a slot 36 and are finally separated from entrained liquid by flowing between ribs 37, 39, Fig. 5, projecting from the tubes 30, 33. The inflow and outflow of liquid is controlled by valves so that the head of liquid is maintained constant. The exhaust of vapour is effected by means of a barometric condenser or jet condenser. A number of evaporators may be arranged for multiple effect.
