Abstract

<PICT:0493716/III/1> Ammonia is recovered from the waste cuprammonium precipitation liquors used in the manufacture of artificial silk, by passing the warm liquor through a countercurrent of steam having a pressure corresponding to the temperature of the liquor, and condensing the mixture of steam and ammonia. The liquor enters the countercurrent apparatus 3 by a pipe 1 and meets the steam supplied through pipes 7 by evaporators 5a, 5b, into which the spent liquor from 3 passes. The steam is drawn off from 5a, 5b by compressors fed with steam by pipes 71, and the mixture of steam and ammonia passes by pipe 8 to a condenser 9, and then to an absorber 10, cooled by fresh precipitation liquor fed thereto by pipe 19. This heated fresh liquor passes by pipe 20 to the pipe 22 leading to the artificial-silk apparatus. The ammonia solution may pass by a heat-exchanger 13 to a rectifying column 14 supplied with steam by a pipe 21 and leading to an end condenser 16.
