Abstract

352,189. Variable-speed ratchet gearing. GETRIEBEBAU GES., 2A, Frauenstrasse, and FœSSEL, H., 4, Pillnitzerstrasse, both in Dresden, Germany. May 29, 1930, No. 16608. [Class 80 (ii).] In variable-speed ratchet gearing, an adjustable crank-pin 8 turns with the driving-shaft 3 and carries loosely a ring 30, 31 in which are secured on pins 32 a series of discs 33 around which are looped the ends of flexible bands, chains, or the like 34, each secured to and wrapped around a roller 35 connected by a ratchet clutch 41 to a shaft 36 in stationary bearings in the casing 1a, all such shafts being geared to the driven shaft 45. The pin 8 is carried eccentrically in a disc 7 carried on roller bearings in a plate 4 on the shaft 3 and formed with worm teeth engaged by a worm 10 geared to a bevel pinion 13 loose on a plate 15 secured to the shaft 3. Similar sets of planet pinions 17, 20 mounted in a loose carrier 19 are secured together and gear one set with a toothed ring 16 on the pinion 13 and with an annulus 25 and the other set with teeth 21 on the driving plate 15 and with a stationary annulus 22. The annulus 25 is adjusted by a pinion 26 on a hand-wheel shaft 27 to rotate the disc 7 and adjust the pin 8 during running. The disc 7 and its adjusting members may be duplicated at the other end of the crankpin 8, by which such duplicate set is driven. The surfaces of the rollers 35 engaged by the bands 34 are so formed as to produce their substantially uniform speed of rotation. When the rollers 35 are not being driven they are returned by springs 39 in chains 38 secured to and wrapped around them in the manner shown.
