386,138. Variable-speed ratchet gearing. QUEVRAIN, L. and QUEVRAIN, H., 25, Rue Lalande, Paris. Feb. 2, 1932, No. 3083. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1931. [Class 80 (ii).] Ratchet gearing, continuously variable in speed from zero to a predetermined maximum, comprises a single driving crank pin 10, invariably oscillating, through a sleeve 10a, loose on the crank pin, and links 12, eight crank arms 14 journalled in sleeves 7 in a rotatably adjustable carrier-frame 6, rectangular grooves 16 in the crank-arms 14 being engaged by roller-surrounded pins 25 on variably-oscillated crank arms 23 facing the arms 14 and having keyed to them ratchettoothed discs 26 imparting unidirectional motion through pawl-carrying plates 28 to looselymounted pinions 27 meshing with a common central wheel 33 on the aligned driven shaft 5. The carrier-frame 6 is rotatably adjusted between fixed limits to vary the throw imparted to the crank-arms 23 by a worm wheel 32 engaging the toothed periphery of the carrierframe 6. The crank-arms 23 are journalled in fixed sleeves 17, 18 pinned against rotation in the housing 1. In addition to being supported in oil-retaining cover-plates 2, 3, the driving and driven shafts bear in central sleeves 8, 20 in the carrier-frame 6 and sleeve 17 respectively.
