350,778. Variable-speed gearing. CHRISTIANSEN, F. and ERICSSON, C. O., Food Machinery Works, Woodfield Road, Balsall Heath, Birmingham. July 17, 1930, No. 21613. [Class 80 (ii).] In variable-speed friction gearing with rollers 12, 19 which are tilted in unison to vary the speed between spring-pressed shaped discs 6, 7 slidably splined on the ends of driving and driven shafts 4, 5, one or more of the rollers is or are mounted on a slide and guideway so as to be movable towards and from the discs to equalize the load on the rollers. In the arrangement shown having two rollers, the roller 12 is mounted as usual on a spindle 13 in a swivel bracket 14, and the mounting of the roller 19 only is slidable. A spindle 20, on which the roller 19 is journalled, is slidably mounted on two guide pins 21 which pass through the spindle. The pins 21 are secured to a swivel bracket 14a, and openings in the bracket allow play to the spindle. The brackets 14, 14a are geared together by segments 25 and controlled from a crank arm 26. Oil-retaining screw cups 8, 10 are provided.
