Abstract

349,172. Road vehicle opening tops. DUPLE BODIES & MOTORS, Ltd. and WATTS, A. W., Rookery Nook, both in Edgware Road, The Hyde, Hendon, London. March 8, 1930, No. 7658. [Class 108 (i).] A road vehicle roof comprises a number of panels, preferably transversely curved, travelling in parallel independent guides arranged in horizontal side-by-side relationship on the roof sides, the panels being adapted to collapse telescopically. The roof opening is closable by means of a number of rigid transversely curved panels a .. a<3> which progressively decrease in width and height so that they may telescope into one another. The adjacent ends of the panels are bent acutely as shown at b, Fig. 5, to provide for watertightness, a rubber &c. packing c being added if desired. Projections d of arcuate or angle form may be provided on one or all of the panels to prevent rain being driven along the panels. The edges of the panels are provided with rollers r .. r<3>, Fig. 9, engaging in guides s .. s<3> arranged side-by-side on the cant rails t. When closed the panel a<3> is pressed against a packing strip 25 on the transverse bar 12 by means of a spring hook 15 and toggle levers 21, 23 on the panel. The panels may be actuated by cog wheels v and racks u, Fig. 11, from a shaft wand bevel gears x, y on the panel. Side shields 26, Fig. 2, are provided. Specification 300,361, [Class 108 (i), Road vehicles, Body details &c. of], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
