Abstract

415,376. Vehicle opening - tops. GRIMSTON, F. B. S., Greycoats, Park Road, Haslemere, Surrey. Nov. 21, 1932, No. 32907. [Class 108 (i).] In opening tops of the kind in which a rigid top is adapted to be moved to a rear position over the rear end of the car the guiding means is such that the movement of the top in a parallel manner is always ensured. The rear end of the rigid top 1 is guided in a parallel manner by means of pinions 4, Figs. 2 and 3, mounted on the ends of a shaft 3 and engaging racks 5 secured to the vehicle body. The racks 5 are formed on an angle strip 6 the upper edge of which is provided with a bevelled portion 10 co-operating with a bevelled roller 11 on the shaft 3 to prevent detachment of the top 1 from the racks. In other forms the racks may form part of a U-shaped member or be secured to a T-member, rollers being provided to ensure engagement between the pinions and sacks. Figs. 7 and 8 show another form in which a frame 20 is mounted on each side of the body and is provided with sprockets 21 over which run a chain 23. Secured to the chain are links 24 connected to the top at 25 and provided with guide rollers 27, 28 adapted to roll on the guide frame 20.
