Abstract
375,073. Vehicle opening tops. PAGE, G., 35, Thornbury Road, Isleworth, Middlesex. June 17, 1931, No. 17584. [Class 108 (i).] In vehicle roofs in which an aperture is adapted to be closed by a sliding panel which in the closed position is substantially flush with the fixed portion and with the cant rails the panel is formed of flexible material to which are secured at the front edge a cambered transverse member and at the rear edge a cambered channelling. The sliding panel 2 is provided with channels 23 coacting with'channel guides 21 on the cant rails 22, springs 24 being provided as shown so that as the panel emerges from under the fixed part 1 of the roof to close the roof aperture the rear part of the panel is pressed upwardly so that the panel 2 is flush with the fixed part 1 of the roof and with the cant rails 2. The rear of the panel 2 is provided with a channel 12 to trap water and to hold a pin 11 which coacts with the traversing chain 8 operated by sprocket wheels 6, 7 and handle 9. The rear of the panel is shaped as shown in Fig. 3 to coact with the bevelled edge of the fixed part 1. Screw traversing gear may be provided if desired. The panel 2 as shown comprises three-ply wood sheets fitted to a cross member 3 of flat steel bent to the desired camber and also provided with front and rear transverse members. The panel in a modification may comprise sheet metal perforated except at the margins and positions corresponding to the cross member 3 which is therefore dispensed with.
