Abstract

366,539. Road vehicle hoods. SCHREINER, G., Tisdale, Ashacre Lane, Salvington, Worthing, Sussex. Nov. 5, 1930, No. 33301. [Class 108 (i).] In an opening top for road vehicles a sheet of flexible material, stiffened by transverse members is wound on a spring roller and is guided by means of U-shaped members on the cover being guided by longitudinal guides on the roof, the guides having a horizontal upper limb embraced by the U-shaped member and a vertical web to prevent access of weather. The flexible member 4 is wound on a spring roller 5 and is provided at its front end with transverse strips 11, 13, 13a so formed as to constitute slides co-operating with guides 9 arranged longitudinally at the sides of the roof. Intermediate strips 25 may be provided and together with the member 4 formed to constitute additional slides for the guiding rails 9, flaps 4a, 4b serving as weather strips. The flexible member 4 may be unwound from the spring roller 5 by means of cables 14 secured to the front transverse member of the cover and passing over pulleys 15 to be operated from a drum 17 and handle 20, a detent 22 being provided. The spring roller may be mounted at either end of the roof or intermediately.
