Abstract
363,666. Road vehicles &c. BRINVILLIERS, A. H., 7, St. Leonards Terrace, Chelsea, London. Sept. 22, 1930, No. 28311. [Class 108 (i).] In hoods of the kind comprising a cover of flexible sheet or strip the cover is adapted to be doubled back upon itself about a transverse roller or the like and its edge drawn along the under surface of the undeflected part of the cover. The cover 20 is secured at the rear at 21 and at its front to a cross member 25 and over a roller 24, a cable 27 &c. being secured to the member 25 and adapted to be operated by winding means on the dash board, a second cable 34 being adapted to be secured to the roller 24 when desired to draw the cover 20 into operative position. The roller 22 and member are adapted to be guided inside cant rails 26 having grooves 43, 44 and the roller 24 is mounted in a sliding carriage comprising side plates 45, cross members 46, 47 and spring-controlled spindles 48. A transverse member 23 is provided to support the cover 20 and is adapted to be moved into and out of position as required by the roller 24 which engages with a catch 61 on the member 23 and removes it from or allows it to be locked to a projection 62 on the cant rails. The side edges of the cover are adapted to be secured to the cant rails by fasteners of the lightning type, members 55, 56, 57 on the carriage appropriately positioning the edges which engage the fixed part 53, 54 of the fastening and the locking member being secured to the carriage members 55. The roller 24 and carriage are adjustable in width to suit the varying width of the roof opening. Fig. 10 shows the winding arrangement, a drum being driven by internal gearing from a hand-crank mounted on the spindle 69. The cable 37 is secured adjustably to the drum bv means of a screwed member 73 in the boss. A second drum 33 is spring connected to the first drum and carries the cable 34 the end of which is provided with a hook 41, Fig. 1, which can be secured to the roller carriage when required but which normally is positioned on the scuttle.
