Abstract

411,231. Vehicle bodies. PRESSED STEEL CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd., Cowley, KELLEY, G. L., 15, Charlbury Road, and ROBERTSON, R., 44, Ash Grove, Headington, all in Oxford. Feb. 17, 1933, No. 4908. [Class 108 (i).] In sheet metal vehicle bodies the side wall structure is formed in its lower margins with threshold portions lying out of the plane of the outer contour of the body. As shown in Fig. 1, the threshold portion 11 is formed inwardly of the outer contour of the body panel as defined by the ports 13, 14 and is secured to a sill member 20 of channel section, the upper portion of which is secured at 23 to a recessed portion 15 adapted to hold a strip 31 against which the door 32 is adapted to close and at the lower end is welded at 24 to the threshold portion and bolted to the running board supports 25 by which the body is mounted on the chassis members 27. A recess 28 for the floor boards 29 is provided. As shown in Fig. 2, the threshold portions 41 are curved inwardly forming a channel portion 50 which overlies the running board 18. The sill member 45 is of Z-section and welded to the threshold portion and bolted to the running board supports 25. The channel 50 may be recessed at its outer face to accommodate the lower edge of the door 32. Fig. 5 shows another form, the horizontal lower edge 62 of the threshold portion being extended and a sill member 63-67 secured thereto and to the chassis member 71.
