Abstract

453,070. Vehicle bodies. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., Cowley, and GREENE, R. C., 1, Carlton Road, both in Oxford. May 8, 1935, No. 13550. [Class 108 (i)] In vehicles comprising metal side panels the known wing mudguards are dispensed with and the lower edges of the side panels nest with, or are secured to the rear wheel housing panels so as not to restrict the rear door openings. As shown in Figs. 2, 3, 4, which are views taken on the corresponding cross sections of Fig. 1, the body outer panel 11 is secured at 12, 13 to the outer margin of a wheel guard 14, the inner margin of which is secured to the wheel housing panel 17. As shown in Fig. 2, the threshold portion of the outer panel 11 is formed as a shallow box shaped sill which encroaches on the door opening as little as possible. The outer panel 20 of the door is connected to the rail 22 of the inner panel 23 and may be flared outwardly at 21 to correspond with the outward flaring of the body panel 11 as shown in Fig. 3. The guard 14 may be integral with the wheel housing panel in which case a channel spacer takes the place of the flanges 15, 16 shown in Fig. 2.
