Hoods.- In road vehicles and watercraft hoods of the type in which fittings on the ends of the hoop-sticks run on side guide rails the free side edges of the cover are provided with strips or belts of material of a flexible or semi-rigid character to ensure, when folding the hood, that the free edges are lifted out of contact with the runner fittings. The cover a mounted on hoop-sticks a<2> and runner fittings a<3> are provided at its free side edges d with a continuous strip, of semirigid material so that as shown in Fig. 3 the edges d are forced outwardly when the cover is being folded. When the cover d is drawn over the vehicle, &c., it is tensioned so that the free edges are pressed against the cant rails to effect a closure. The runner fittings a<3> may be cut away at h, Fig. 6, to assist further in preventing the cover from being pinched. The strip e may form part of the endless tow rope or cable for opening or closing the hood.
