Abstract

271,195. Smith, H., and Jones, T., (formerly trading as Jones & Smith). and Warwick Motor Body Building Co. March 10, 1926. Hoods.-In collapsable hoods adapted to run in runways carried by the cant rails the hoods are provided with flexible but inextensible supports for the lateral edges, the flexible supports being driven by wheels at the rear of the vehicle which wheels are rotated by chains or the like in permanent engagement with the flexible members and operable in both directions longitudinally of the vehicle. As shown, the lateral supports comprise chains 30, 31 passing over sprockets 26, 27 and being attached to the hood ribs 33, Fig. 5. The chains run in runways in the cant rails which are curved downwardly at the rear to allow the hood to be collapsed into a recess. Secured to the chains 30, 31 by links 32, Fig. 4, are endless chains 28, 29 passing over sprockets 21, 22, 24, 25 and supported in recesses in the cant rail. The chains 28, 29 are driven from the front of the vehicle by means of a shaft 17, and bevel wheels 18, 19. To secure weather-tightness the lateral edges of the hood pass over supports 43 and under metal members 46 provided with apertures 48 for draining.
