Abstract
507,657. Endless - track vehicles. ALDERTON, H. M. July 21, 1938, No. 20198/37. [Class 79 (i)] Each track 10 passes round a driving wheel 6 and an idler 7 in advance of the driving wheel arranged to hold the front part of the track clear of the ground, and is driven by driving members 13 projecting axially from the sides of the wheel 6 without extending beyond the rim thereof so that the vehicle can be run on the road after removal of the tracks. As shown, the track comprises endless cables or bands clamped between angle iron treads 3<1> and pairs of angle members 12 arranged to straddle the driving wheel 6 and to co-operate with the driving members 13 thereon. The treads 31 may have end pieces to prevent side-slip, or may be of T-section. The idler 7 is adjustable in its mounting 15a for track tensioning purposes and to facilitate removal of the track. The front steering wheels of the vehicle are shown at 16.
