474,700. Endless-track vehicles. RANTASA, J. Oct. 29, 1936, No. 29428. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1935. [Classes 79 (i), 79 (iii), and 79 (v)] A vehicle supported by wheels or runners is driven by an endless-track c pivoted between the free ends of two members b the other ends of which are pivotally supported near the front on the vehicle frame a. In the construction shown the pivots d of the members b are supported between springs e on frame uprights f. The vehicle wheels p rotate on stub axles q pivoted at r to boxes u and controlled by springs t. The wheels may all be steerable and the boxes u of the steerable wheels are accordingly fixed to bars v which swivel round the frame uprights f and are controlled from the steering shaft w by means of arms x. A snow plough y may be fixed in front of the vehicle, and sledge runners z may be fixed on the wheels p. The engine g may be mounted on the members b, as shown, or on the main frame a, and drives the track through chain gear h or shafting. The track comprises an endless band i provided with tread members k secured to plates l on the inner side of the band, the plates l having hooked extensions n connected together by chain links o so as to relieve the rubber or other band i of tension. When used on roads rubber block bands may be stretched over the .treads k to prevent injury to the road surface.
