Abstract
621,988. Railway cycles. TUAL, L. Feb. 28, 1947, No. 5865. Convention date, March 19, 1946. [Class 136 (iii)] A railway vehicle comprises a bicycle having its wheels 20, 21 running on one row of rails and an additional wheel 19 running on the other row.of rails and connected to the bicycle by a rigid frame 10, the wheels of the cycle and the additional wheel being guided laterally along the insides of their respective rails by flanged rollers 22 supported by struts 24, 25, 26 and 27 rigid with the frame 10, the rollers being adapted to engage the rails with their flanges and not their treads when running on free track sections, and to rest on their respective rails when crossing gaps in the track appliances. The bicycle carries lugs 4, 5, 6 and 7 to which the frame 10 is detachably secured by nuts and bolts so that the frame may be removed and the cycle used on roads. Two rollers are arranged one in front and one behind the additional wheel 19 and two more rollers may be placed either in front of or behind the front and rear wheels. The cycle steering gear is locked in a position slightly set towards the outside, so that only the front roller of the bicycle is effective when running over the track sections. The rollers 22 are mounted on bolts 23 the ends of which together with their supporting lugs are hardened and act as side guards when crossing certain track appliances. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a change-speed gear, an engine, means to load articles, tools or the like, light weight bodies adapted to shield the user, one or several small, medium or large sized side wheels, means to lift the rollers and fold the frame so that the bicycle may be used on a railway track or on a road &c. means to adjust the length of the frame, the length of the struts, the position of the rollers &c. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
