Abstract
589,565. Articulated vehicles. PATENTES TALGO SOC. ANON. Jan. 11, 1945, No. 892. Convention date, July 8, 1944. [Class 79 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a train of articulated railway vehicles in which each vehicle is provided with a pair of wheels at one end and a pivotal connection to the preceding vehicle approximately over the centre of its wheel axle such that when travelling over a curved track the leading edge of the flange of the outer wheels do not bear on the rails, such as is described in Specification 579,476, the two wheels instead of being mounted directly on the vehicles are mounted in a bogie or truck disposed between two adjacent vehicles and which is adapted to be locked to one or the other of the vehicles according to the direction of running. As shown in Fig. 3 a bogie frame c is mounted on independent wheels r spring- supported on vertical guides v. The bogie is pivoted at M, M' to vehicles D, E respectively, to oscillate in a horizontal plane and is provided with side bearings P, Q, Fig. 5, in which slides a framework a, b, articulated about a vertical axis u and this framework is locked by bolts s, Fig. 3, to the vehicle E when it leads the vehicle D, in which case the vehicle D pivots about the connection M. When the train is to proceed in the opposite direction the framework is locked to the vehicle D. The engine F, Fig. 8, is connected to the train by an engine tender G having a pair of wheels H at the rear which are raised clear of the rails when the tender is supported on an end bogie L of the articulated train.
