Abstract
853,075. Motor vehicle axle structures; driving gear. SCHLEPPERWERK NORDHAUSEN VEB. June 10, 1958 [March 12, 1958], No. 18493/58. Classes 79(2) and 79(4). A tractor front axle 1 Figs. 1, 2 is adapted for conversion to driven or non-driven form by the attachment of alternative steering knuckles 11, 23 carrying driven or non-driven wheels 26. The knuckle 11 has a reduction gear assembly 12, 13 driving a toothed riin 14 in a hub housing 15 to which the wheel felloe 27 is secured, while the knuckle-23 has a non- driven hub 24 to which the felloe 27 is secured. The axle 1 is mounted on a centre pivot 2 and has clamps 3 at each end for the attachment of telescopic adjusting tubes 4 provided for track width adjustment. U-shaped holders 5 on the ends of the tubes 4 have the knuckle heads 6 bolted thereto and are arranged eccentrically so that when turned through 180 degrees the attachment holes for the knuckle heads 6 are raised or lowered to compensate for the different lengths of the knuckles 11, 23. Brackets 10 are provided on the underside of axle 1 for the attachment of the differential gear 9 which is coupled to the wheels through universal joints 16, 21, profiled sliding sleeves 17 and half shafts 22.
