Abstract
200,200. Tell, E. E. von, and Croll, C. W. Le M. April 7, 1922. Hatches.-A pair of hatch covers 1, 2 are hinged at their adjacent edges to a beam or bar 3 in such a manner that the free edges of the hatch members can fold downwards, but not upwards from the horizontal. The hook 11 of derrick tackle 13 is engaged either directly with holes in the beam or shackles thereon and the hatch members fold up when the tackle is hauled up. To close the hatch, the folded pair of hatch members is brought over the hatchway, and lowered, the free edges of the members separating on being lowered into contact with the hatch covering. This separating action is facilitated by the provision of an additional tackle 24 and hook 25 which is engaged with the edge of one of the hatch members.
