Abstract

360,160. Road vehicle opening tops. SUNSALOON BODIES, Ltd., Semple Street, Edinburgh, and PEARSON, D. A., Castleford Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham. Oct. 15, 1930, No. 30796. [Class 108 (i).] In road vehicles of the kind in which the opening roof comprises a series of panels which telescope and nest one upon another when withdrawn the side edges of the panels are so constructed as to yield freely in a lateral direction to prevent binding in the guides. The panels b .. e are shaped as shown and are stiffened or reinforced at their medial or top parts with angle-irons o at their leading edge and wooden battens q at their trailing edges, their lateral edges r being relatively yielding or flexible. The panels are arranged to interengage during the closing of the roof by hookshaped parts i, j, Fig. 4, and during the opening of the roof by the hook-shaped parts contacting with the angle-irons o on adjacent panels, Fig. 3. The leading edge of the leading panel is shaped as at p, Fig. 6, and is adapted to contact with a buffer y on the face of a fixed part of the roof, a drainage channel z being provided. The guide channels t are arranged in trays u having lateral flanges v. Triangular beadings s having concave bases are secured to the lateral edges of the panels to be received in the guides t. Fixed lateral cornices 1 are provided.
