Abstract

273,894. Briggs, A. L. Nov. 17, 1926. Hoods.-In vehicle bodies of the type comprising a pair of guide rails and a cover adapted to be supported by the guide rails the cover consists of a number of transverse members maintained in fixed rotation to each other by a flexible but non-elastic coupling, the whole being covered by a sheet of waterproof material. The cover comprises transverse ribs 6 secured to two flexible metallic bands 8 and adapted to slide on guide rails 7 each of which is in three sections hinged together, the rear section being carried by the rear quarter 22 and the other sections by side pillars 13 and the wind-screen. A recess 4 is provided at the rear of the vehicle body extending under the seats which recess is provided with rails 5 in continuation of the guide rails 7. The guide rails 7 are adapted to be folded on to the rear quarter 22 which is lowered into the body by rack and pinion 23, 24 and lazytcngs 25. The door windows may be raised and lowered by endless bands 20 and the side pillars 13 bv screws 17. The cover is operated by endless bands 26 having projections 27 adapted to engage the ribs 6.
