Abstract

348,197. Creasing and folding paper. BROWNLOW, R. and LATENT LABORATORIES, Ltd., 356, Gray's Inn Road, London. July 29, 1929, No. 32853. [Class 100 (ii).] Flat or untwisted yarn is formed by successively folding a strip or strips of paper longitudinally commencing with a fold adjacent to one edge and repeatedly folding on to the unfolded remainder of the strip, until the entire width of the strip has been formed into superimposed folds. The paper may be impregnated or coated with an adhesive &c. applied at any desired stage of the folding. Paper strip 22, Fig. 1, passes over pulleys 23 which maintain it in tension and through series of rollers 11, 15, guides 17, Figs. 9 and 11, and rollers 8, 15, which feed the paper and compress the folded part, the rollers 8 being driven from a shaft 3 by a series of bevels and the rollers 15 being idle rollers in adjustable brackets 16. The rollers 11 cause the paper to curl upwards, and are shaped as shown in Fig. 6, the outer edge of the frustum part 24 exceeding in diameter the disc part by about half the thickness of the paper, and width of the disc part being narrower in each successive roller 11.
