Abstract

686,604. Bookbinding. LINDFORS, A. T. May 19, 1950. [Nov. 29, 1949] No. 12613/50. Class 16. [Also in Group XVI] In a method of producing a book or the like of one or more folded sheets with a glue binding, each sheet is subjected to at least a penultimate fold and a final fold to form a signature, and during the penultimate folding each sheet is perforated along the final folding line prior to the glue being applied along that line. The paper 3 is folded by means of a blade 2 and rollers 1, carried by conveyer belts 4 to the second pair of folding rollers 6 and blade 7 and thence by belts 8 to folding rollers 10 and blade 11. A rim of perforating teeth 12 arranged on ring halves is screwed on one roller of the pair 6 and corresponds to the fold line of the sheets Recesses are provided in the other roller so that a perforation in the last line of folding is obtained simultaneously with the second folding. The perforating teeth which enter the paper on the side thereof which will be the interior of the final fold, have edges about 2-4 mm. long and are spaced 2-4 mm. apart.
