[Class 100 (i)] Cutting, folding, and associating apparatus.- A rotary web-printing press is provided with a pair of folding-cylinders to which the web is fed and a transfer and collecting cylinder situated between the folding cylinders and arranged to be thrown out of operation when desired to enable all the sheets cut from the web to be folded by one cylinder on some of the sheets to be folded by the second cylinder. A web 10 is led from the press to slitters 13, 14 arranged as shown, the halves being fed to formers 18. The two halves may be superposed by means of turner bars 19, or the parts of the web may be associated with corresponding parts of a second web 11. After leaving the former, each half-width web passes to a cylinder 22 provided with two sets of sheet-taking pins 28, 29, two double-edged folding-blades 25, 26, and two blocks 40 co-operating with a knife 39 on a transfer and collecting cylinder 24, which is also provided with a set of pins 38. A second folding-cylinder 23 is provided, having a set of pins 35 and a folding-blade 34. The half-width webs are cut into sheets at each half revolution of the cylinders 22, and the sheets may be dealt with as follows : (a) a sheet may be delivered at each half revolution of the cylinders 22 by each of the blades 25, 26, the pins 38 being thrown out of operation ; (b) a two-sheet product may be delivered at each revolution of the cylinders 22, the blades 25 and pins 29 being thrown out of operation, and the cylinders 24 acting as collecting-cylinders ; (c) single sheets may be delivered alternately by the cylinders 22, 23, the blades 25 and pins 29 being thrown out of operation, and the cylinders 24 acting as transfer-cylinders. The products from the two formers 18 may be cross-associated by the use of the roller 42. The slit webs may be led to pairs of formers arranged at right angles to the press, the formers of each pair being arranged one above the other or side by side.
