Abstract
597,273. Printing-machines. HOE & CO., Ltd., R., CRABTREE, J. O.,and QUICK, C. G. June 25, 1945, No. 16159. [Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] Cutting and folding apparatus.-In a rotary printing-machine, cutting apparatus is provided for trimming three edges of a printed product after it leaves the folding mechanism and as it passes to the delivery mechanism. The products may be formed from a printed web or webs W folded longitudinally by a former, cut into products by cutting cylinders 3, 4, and subsequently cross-folded by folding cylinders 4, 17. After leaving the folding-off rollers of the cylinder 17, the product has its side edges trimmed by slitters 14 on cylinders 13 and its rear edge trimmed by cutters 16, preferably helical, on cylinders 15. The trimmings at the cylinders 13 are either stripped from the cylinders or taken off by pins 19, and pass to a suction duct 21 which may extend close to the product to render the use of pins unnecessary. One of the cylinders 15 is provided with an opening 24 connected through its axis 22 to the duct 21 so as to draw off the rear-edge trimming, or alternatively pins may be employed on the cylinder. The trimmings may be cut up as they pass to the duct. Specification 544,183 is referred to.
