620,666. Piece boards. QUARMBY, F. R. Jan. 1, 1946, No. 28. [Class 42 (ii)] A rolling or lap board, used to form the centre of a roll of fabric, is formed by applying to a filler of layers of corrugated paper, two U-shaped cover strips embracing the longitudinal edges of the filler, gradually forcing the cover strips inwards towards one another and securing them in position by adhesive strips. The filler a which may comprise three layers of backed corrugated paper, with the corrugations of the centre layer perpendicular to those of the remaining layers, has two strips b, b<SP>1</SP> of a width equal to, or slightly greater than, half the girth of the filler, applied to its longitudinal edges, by folding them and placing them within U-shaped metal formers c, which are then brought over the edges of the filler and caused to approach each other by passing between converging series of hollow-faced rollers d and e. End-filling pieces of wood are then applied, and the assembly secured together by adhesive strips g<SP>1</SP>, h<SP>1</SP> applied by rollers g, h, after which it passes between further rollers where it remains for a short period while the adhesive sets. A paper or like end cap or strip is then pasted over each end.
