1427665 Forms of wood; making wooden products STATENS SKOGSINDUSTRIER AB 18 Feb 1974 [7 March 1973] 7313/74 Heading B5L A method of producing a slab-like element for use in carpentry comprises gluing at least two wooden strips 4 on a first hard thin sheet 1 of wood fibre, wood chips, or veneer, in the long direction of the sheet with a space or spaces 6 between the strips, supplying to the or each space a filling body 8 comprising strips placed on edge and joined together at spaced positions and extended to form a honeycomb construction, cutting the construction to size, and gluing a second hard thin sheet 10 of wood fibre, wood chips or veneer securely to the strips 4 and the filling body 8. The thus obtained element may be cut into smaller elements. As described a wood fibre board 1 is coated on its wire-side by a roller 3 with a thermo-setting adhesive. Strips 4 are placed on the coated surface to define spaces 6. In a honeycomb construction former 7 kraft-paper strips glued at spaced locations are expanded, and, if necessary, cut to width, to form filling body 8 which is supplied to the spaces 6 and cut to length as a result of a signal produced by detection of the edge of the sheet 1. A second wood fibre board 10 is coated with glue by a roller 11 and placed on the strips 4 and body 8 to form a slab-like element G. After setting of the glue the element is cut either along a wide strip 4 or between two adjacent such strips to form smaller elements the edges of which are then smoothed. The end edges of the elements are filled in with thin edge strips, or, after removing some of the body 8, by thick edge strips.
