1359481 Forms of wood; laminates R E INGHAM & CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [5 March 1970 17 March 1970] 10557/70 and 12648/70 Headings B5L and B5N [Also in Divisions B8 and E1] Sheet material consisting of hardboard alone or hardboard provided with one or more decorative and/or protective flexible facing sheets is provided with two or more Vee grooves 120, 150 each of such a depth that a membrane of material remains joining the sections of the sheet material on each side of the groove and forming a hinge for such sections. The grooved material may be hardboard with a vinyl film on one face. This film may be printed patterned or coloured, or may cover a decorative layer of wood veneer, fabric or paper. Alternatively a temporary film such as adhesive tape or film may be applied to hardboard prior to grooving and removed afterwards. The grooved material may be folded to form part or all of a hollow panel or box, e.g. to form a door, shelf, frame, skirting board or wall panel. In one example the sheet material is provided with two perpendicular sets of parallel grooves, its edges are bevelled, areas of the material are cut away, glue is placed in the grooves and on the edges and the material is folded to form a door, Fig. 3. Instead of glue the folded structure may be held rigid by securing it, e.g. by panel pins, to wooden battens. The hollow panel formed may be reinforced by wooden battens, cardboard honeycombs, paper packing or other insulating material.
