1386908 Forms of wood OLYMPIA PLYWOOD & TIMBER PRODUCTS BERHAD 7 Aug 1973 37343/73 Heading B5L A composite board comprises a core layer and top and bottom surface veneers, the core layer being formed of strips of plywood so arranged side-by-side that the plane of each plywood strip is perpendicular to the plane of each surface veneer, the grain directions of the surface veneers being parallel and forming an acute angle with the direction of the plywood strips forming the core layer. As described plywood strips 3 are cut from sheets using at least two spaced circular saws, and the strips are joined to form planks 5. The strips may be joined using perforated gum tapes 6, fibreglass threads impregnated with a hot melt glue, or urea-formaldehyde or polyvinyl acetate glue. The planks are assembled between two glue coated veneers, and the assembly is hot-pressed to cure the glue. Preferably the planks are arranged so that their longitudinal axes make and angle having a tangent of # with the longitudinal axis of the surface veneers, and triangular planks 8, 9 are arranged at the edges of the layer.
