972,357. Hockey sticks. M. GARTLAND. May 21, 1963 [July 25, 1962], No. 20167/63. Heading A6D. A hockey stick has a handle 1 spliced to a toe 2 having a striking face formed of a plurality of three or more laminations 3 of timber, plastics material or fibreglass secured together adhesively. During manufacture the laminates are individually coated with adhesive, shaped in a jig and then allowed to set, or they may be bent to the desired shape and then glued together. Alternatively, a sheet of laminated material is bent to a U-shape, divided through the centre of the U, and each half cut into a plurality of toe portions. The toes are formed either with the plane of the laminates perpendicular to the striking face of the hockey stick, or in the case where they are parallel to the striking face, the toes may be cut to shape from a board of laminated sheets. A veneer strip may be applied to the striking face.
