[Class 140] [Also in Group XXIII] A composite board comprises two parallel sheets of wood or plywood, between which are placed side by side prisms of cork firmly compressed one against the other parallel to the sheets, to which they are glued 'under pressure. To obtain the board, the curved and irregular-shaped natural cork is cut, perpendicularly to the surface, into strips of the required width, which are then planed parallel to the inner and outer surfaces of the bark to the desired thickness. The strips are placed side by side and pressed together without glue, to form a practically homogeneous block to which the wood or plywood sheets are glued. The prisms may alternatively be of agglomerated cork. In a modification, a sheet of asbestos-cement is substituted for one of the wood or plywood sheets, or a sheet of asbestos-cement may be placed between two layers of cork prisms, the outer sides of which layers are bounded by wood or plywood sheets. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a board wherein the prisms of cork are replaced by sheets of agglomerated cork. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
