Abstract

540,735. Foldable blanks for boxes. BOGAERT, A. G. A. VAN DEN. April 25, 1940, No. 7491. [Class 18] A sheet material utilizing, e.g. saw-mill waste, parts of orange crates &c. for folding box blanks consists of wood strips 2, Figs. 1 and 5, arranged with their edges abutting and having, adhered to both faces, sheets or strips 1 of tough flexible material such as kraft paper, woven fabric such as cheese cloth, or cellulose derivative, such as viscose. Glue or heat and pressure may be used for securing the sheeting to the slats, and the slats may be glued together. The sheets may be pressed or rolled while the adhesive is plastic, and the shrinkage of the fabric on drying stiffens the sheet. Two sheets may be bound side by side by interposing a paper parting strip between them and removing it before the second covering sheet is applied. A sheet thus formed may be grooved in the direction of the grain so that it may be bent up as in Fig. 5. Metal angle strips 9 may be employed. Specifications 390,219 and 403,722 are referred to.
