Abstract

1333661 Laminated paper strip JIFFY MFG CO 1 April 1971 8485/71 Heading B5N A laminated rectangular protector strip for wrapping and enclosing an article, comprises parallel, elongated sheets F and G of strong paper, of which one sheet G is wider than the other sheet F, adhesive coatings E on the opposed faces of the sheets holding the sheets together adjacent their margins, fragmented stuffing material H disposed between the coated faces, the stuffing material being adhesively attached to at least one of the coatings, the stuffing material being lightly compressed and applied across an area which is less than the width of the other sheet F, the one sheet G having outwardly projecting longitudinally side extension portions 20 folded inwardly over the other sheet F and outwardly lapping the marginal edges thereof, the extensions being secured in the folded over position by the adhesive. The paper sheets may be of kraft paper. The adhesive may be a resin, a glue or asphalt. The stuffing material may be cut up paper or paper fragments, waste paper material or fibrous material. A strip according to the invention may be made by feeding paper sheets F and G from rolls A and B, coating the opposed surfaces of the sheets by coating rollers C and D, spreading fragmented stuffing material H from hopper J on the upper surface of the lower paper sheets, compressing an assembly comprising the paper sheets and the stuffing material lightly between pressure rollers K and L, applying further adhesive to the margins N of the sheet F by rollers P, folding over the margins N by infolders S after the application of one or more surfacing sheets R of tissue, and severing the strip into discrete lengths.
