Abstract

A tray e.g. for packing fruit, vegetables, meat or fish is folded from a sheetlike body which comprises a thin wooden plate 1 one of whose surfaces is covered by a foldable paper, cardboard, plastics, metallic or other sheet 2. Cuts 12-19 through the wooden plate allow the body to be folded without breaking to form the container. Fan-like arrangement of cuts 16-19 allow the corners of the tray to be rounded. The wooden sheet may be located inside or outside the tray. <IMAGE>

Description

FOOD PRODUCTS PACKING TRAY OBJECT OF THE INVENTION The object of the invention, as can be gathered from the title, is a ping tray for food products, for instance fruit, vegetables, meat and fish.
The tray is manufactured from a sheet that is punched and cut to emerge as a body of scarce height and generally rectangular in shape.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The state of the art has well-known container trays generally rectangular in shape and molded In cellulosic paste and also flattened plastic.
The general structure of such containers defines their frustrumof-the-cone shape, with their largest base open and with rounded corners.
Tras are also known to be formed by other materIals, such as metallic plates and even plywood boards.
Other similar trays are formed from cardboard sheet, with a bottom and four side walls folded upwards from folding lines provided on the bottom, such side walls being joined to each other at the corners, through flap-like extensions attached to the walls.
Whereas trays manufactured with flattened plastic are rigid enough to hold the contents, their flaw is that they do not absorb liquids. However, trays manufactured with cellulosic paste or pasteboard, even cardboard, are unduly absorbent and are easily damaged and broken.
All these disadvantages are solved with the tray subject of the invention described hereinafter.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The food products packing tray subJect of the invention is a body formed by a bottom and four side walls, folded upwards, provided with flaps to close the tray corners by overlappIng onto adjacent walls.
The essence of tis tray lies In its structure based on a slee5ee~ ShJ forrid by a thin wooden plate coated on one surface a paper, cardboard or other sheet, even a plastic or metallic sheet.
In order tat the walls and the joining flaps therebetween can be folded, cuts are provided solely on the wooden sheet, allowing it to be folded without breaking to form the container.
The cuts on the wooden sheet are provided where the walls meet the joining flaps and in fan-like arrangement, converging at the apex of the base or bottom corners, thereby allowing rounded corners to be formed.
Also as wall boundaries with regard to the bottom and as double parts, two parallel cut lines are provided, as in the case of the corners, only on the wooden sheet to allow it to be folded with respect to the container bottom.
As these cuts must be deep enough to allow the wooden sheet fibres to bend, in the event of undue weakening, the joint of its parts will be strengthened by the sheet covering one of the surfaces of the wooden plate.
Separation of the joining flaps from the adjacent sides is attained by punching, resulting in the loss of material, defining a wedge cut towards the apex of the container bottom corners.
In an embodiment of the container the wooden plate remains inside the tray.
It is nevertheless also possible for the cardboard, paper sheet, plastic or metallic sheets, to remain inside the tray.
The first case is suitable for fruit, vegetables and the like, where the paper or cardboard remains on the outside and may be provided with lithographic print.
In other cases requiring absorption of the humidity let off by products, the paper, cardboard or other sheet shall remain inside.
These sheets superposed on the wood at all events serve for the parts defined by the cuts to be rendered undetachable, acting as support =gtre.wUr.
t the other hand, the wooden sheet acts as framework to ;irZ rg the paper, cardboard or the like.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In order to assist the understanding of the foregoing, a set of drawings has been attached hereto showing the following: Figure 1.- Plan view of the sheetlike body from which the tray Is formed, showing a part of one of the superposed parts constituting the same with a raised corner.
Figure 2.- Perspective view of a tray made with the sheetlike body of the above figure.
Figure 3.- Partial sectional detail of an area of the sheetlike body, showing the cuts provided solely on the wooden plate allowing the same to be folded.
Figure 4.- Detail of how the sheetlike body is folded, where the wooden plate is to remain Inside.
Figure .- Detail showing the sheetlike body fold, when the wooden plate remains inside.
DESCRIPTION OF SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT In the light of the said drawings it can be observed that the sheet body comprises two layers -1- and -2-, the former beIng a wooden plate and the latter a paper, cardboard, plastic or metallic sheet.
The sheetlike body comprises the bottom -3-, and the walls -4-, -5-, -6- and -7-. The ends of two of these walls extend into flaps -8-, -9-, -10- and -11- that shall overlap onto the adjacent walls and join the same to form the tray container.
In order to allow such areas to be folded, cuts are provided, arranged as a double parallel cut -12-, -13-, -14- and -15- where the walls meet the bottom. Such cuts are only provided on the wooden plate.
Also, In order to allow the flaps to bend with respect to the walls, cuts -16-, -17-, -18- and -19- are provided in fan-like arrangement where the said flaps meet the walls. As before, the cuts are only provided on the wooden plate.
In order to obtain the flaps -8-, -9-, -10- and -1i- wedge cuts -2-, 5-s -22- and -23- are provided, with loss of material, towards the apex of the container bottom corners.
