Abstract
346,962. Variable-speed gearing. TOMLINSON, A. V., 65, Victoria Street, London.-(Morse Chain Co. ; Ithaca, New York, U.S.A.) March 26, 1930, No. 9680. [Class 80 (ii).] Comprises a series arrangement of gear units of the kind described in Specification 271,674, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.], in which direct drive or geared drive is obtainable alternatively by moving a clutch, the gearing comprising an eccentric shaft with external and internal gears. Two such units C, D are shown. By moving clutch sleeve 18, shaft 15 may be driven directly from shaft A, or through reducing train 9, 11, 9c, 10. Gear unit E is reversely arranged with internal gear 10a and clutch member 20<11> on its driving-shaft 16 and sliding clutch 18<1>1 on its driven shaft B. This yields direct drive and an over-drive. For lowest speed, units C and D both yield reduction. For second speed, one of these only yields reduction. The third speed is direct through all the units. The fourth speed is the over-drive in unit E. A reversed drive is obtained at lowest speed by sliding a pinion 21 into mesh.
