[Class 23.] Density separators.-A centrifugal device for separating light liquids, such as benzol and water, having a tangential supply pipe, consists of a tank surrounded by a gutter, open towards the interior and connected to the supply pipe. The mixture flows into a cylindrical separating tank b through a tangential inlet pipe a at some height above the base. The pipe a opens into a gutter c surrounding the chamber where the mixture is partially separated by centrifugal action. The lighter liquid rises over the top edge of the gutter c while the waste water sinks and flows out through the pipe e. The cross section of the gutter c may decrease towards its extremity. In an alternative form the tank is of rectangular cross section.
